Welcome to the "Ping and Troubleshoot" Challenge!
In this beginner-level task, you will use the ping command to identify which computer has a connectivity issue in a simple network setup.
Scenario:
You have a small network with three computers (PC1, PC2, and PC3) connected to a router. One of these computers is experiencing connection problems, and your job is to determine which one it is by using the ping command.
Objective:
Use the ping command to test the connectivity of each computer. Identify which computer (PC1, PC2, or PC3) is having the connectivity issue based on the ping responses.
How to Use the Ping Command:
The ping command is a network utility used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It works by sending a series of Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request messages to the target host and listening for Echo Reply messages.
Syntax:
ping [hostname or IP address]
Example:
ping PC1
Possible Ping Responses:
- Reply from [host]: This means the host is reachable.
- Request timed out: This indicates that the host did not respond, suggesting a connectivity problem.
Steps to Complete the Challenge:
- Enter the Command: Type
ping PC1,ping PC2, orping PC3in the command input field and click "Run Command" to simulate pinging each computer. - Analyze the Output: Review the response message to determine if the computer is reachable or if there is a timeout.
- Submit Your Answer: After identifying the problematic computer, type its name (PC1, PC2, or PC3) in the answer input field and click "Check Answer" to verify if you are correct.
